Since making his debut for the national team in 2003, Cristiano Ronaldo has not only made a lasting impact on the field but also generated huge revenues for the Portuguese Football Federation (PFF), especially through broadcasting rights.
Ronaldo’s influence extends beyond just his performance on the pitch; he plays a significant role in boosting PFF’s earnings. According to Talksport, the PFF has recorded profits for 12 consecutive years, with revenue reaching a record €121.6 million — marking the first time Portugal has surpassed the €120 million threshold.
PFF President Fernando Gomes acknowledged, “Ronaldo has had a tremendous impact on our financial situation. This is undeniable when you look at the broadcasting rights and the number of jerseys sold.” In fact, wherever Ronaldo plays, his jerseys are always sold out. For example, when Ronaldo joined Al Nassr at the start of 2023, 2 million CR7 jerseys were sold within 48 hours, bringing the Saudi club a staggering $63 million.
Despite approaching 40, Ronaldo has no plans to retire from the national team. According to Relevo, the star striker is eyeing a place in the 2026 World Cup. Additionally, he is reportedly looking to extend his contract with Al Nassr until 2027, according to transfer expert Al Harbi.
In the early hours of October 13, Ronaldo shone once again by scoring a goal in Portugal’s 3-1 victory over Poland in the Nations League. This goal pushed his career tally to 906, including 133 goals for the national team. Remarkably, Ronaldo has scored 34 goals across all competitions in 2024 alone — an impressive feat for a player nearing 40.
After three matches, Portugal sits comfortably atop the group with 9 points and a +4 goal difference, cementing their strong position.
