According to a recent report by Bloomberg, reporter Mark Gurman said that iOS 18 has the potential to be the “biggest” software update in iPhone history.

iOS 18 is the biggest update

“I understand that Apple sees the new operating system as one of the biggest updates in the company’s history,” Gurman wrote.

Gurman did not reveal any details about the specific features of iOS 18 or the changes that are planned for the future.

However, MacRumors revealed two notable new features that could be included in iOS 18 are support for the Rich Communication Service (RCS) standard and upgrades to the Siri virtual assistant.

According to Bloomberg and The Information, the Siri AI version developed based on the large language model (LLM) named Ajax has been researched and developed by Apple for many years.

Some experts say that Ajax is even rated higher than ChatGPT 3.5. With the goal of helping devices in the ecosystem communicate with each other, the Korean technology leak account yeux1122 revealed that Apple is still “training” how to communicate in the most natural way possible, not just rigid commands.

iOS 18 is scheduled to be released officially in September. The first beta for developers will be released at the WWDC 2024 conference.
