Honda Prologue, the Japanese automaker’s first electric SUV, has been officially announced with a starting price of $49,000. The vehicle has a maximum range of 476 km, depending on the trim level.
The standard EX trim is equipped with a single electric motor at the front axle, producing 212 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. The trim comes with 19-inch alloy wheels, Google integration, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, wireless phone charging, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and SiriusXM satellite radio.
The more upscale Touring trim adds leather upholstery, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, and a memory seat setup.
Both the EX and Touring trims can be equipped with an additional two electric motors at both axles, producing 288 horsepower and 451 Nm of torque. This version has a maximum range of 425 km and a price tag that is $3,000 higher.
The top-of-the-line Elite trim only has the option of two electric motors, all-wheel drive, with a maximum range of 439 km and a starting price of $59,300.
This pricing means that the Prologue is more expensive than the Chevrolet Blazer EV, a similar electric vehicle developed on the same platform from the Japanese-American alliance. However, the American-made model has a starting price of $56,800.
All Prologue trims come standard with the Honda Sensing driver assistance system, which includes features such as automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and traffic sign recognition.
Honda says that customers can choose from charging packages at charging systems in the United States. If they choose EVGo from General Motors (GM), customers will receive up to $750 in free public charging. Customers who choose the Electrify America system will get 60 kWh of free charging. The Honda Home Electrification program will help with the installation of a home charging station with a $500 credit.
